A thoughtful space for understanding and change
I am a BACP-accredited therapist with more than 15 years’ clinical experience. I have undertaken advanced psychodynamic psychotherapy training at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust and have worked across NHS psychotherapy services, private practice, drug and alcohol treatment and organisations supporting survivors of sexual violence.
My work is grounded in curiosity, careful listening and the belief that lasting change often begins with a deeper understanding of ourselves. I do not approach people with fixed ideas about who they are or what they should do. Instead, I offer a thoughtful space in which experiences can be explored openly and at a pace that feels manageable.
Alongside psychotherapy, I provide clinical supervision for counsellors and psychotherapists and reflective executive coaching for professionals, leaders and business owners.
My psychodynamic approach
Psychodynamic psychotherapy is concerned with both what is happening in your life now and the experiences that may have shaped how you understand yourself and relate to others.
We are not always fully aware of why we respond to certain situations in the ways that we do. Earlier relationships, losses, trauma and emotional experiences can continue to influence our expectations of ourselves and other people. This can result in patterns that repeat across relationships, work and family life, even when we recognise them intellectually or have tried hard to change.
Within therapy, we will think together about your thoughts, feelings, relationships and experiences. We may pay attention to what is said, what feels difficult to say and what may emerge within the therapeutic relationship itself. This can help us understand emotional patterns that have previously remained outside your awareness.
Psychodynamic therapy does not offer quick answers or tell you how to live your life. Its purpose is to help you develop a fuller understanding of yourself, enabling you to make choices with greater awareness and freedom.
I work with adults experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, low self-esteem, addiction and difficulties in relationships. I have particular experience of sexual trauma and emotionally abusive or controlling relationships.
As a Black female psychotherapist, I also have a particular interest in race, culture, identity and difference. These experiences can sometimes be minimised, misunderstood or left unspoken within therapy. I welcome them as an important part of understanding both your internal world and the social world in which you live.
Clinical supervision
I offer psychodynamic clinical supervision to counsellors, psychotherapists, trainees and experienced practitioners. My additional background in integrative counselling enables me to work with practitioners from a range of therapeutic approaches.
Supervision provides more than oversight of clinical work. It is a space in which we can think carefully about the client, the therapeutic relationship and your own emotional responses to the work. We may consider unconscious communication, transference, countertransference and the influence of the wider setting or organisation.
I aim to offer supervision that is thoughtful, containing and appropriately challenging. You will be encouraged to develop confidence in your own clinical thinking while remaining open to uncertainty, complexity and meanings that may not be immediately apparent.
We can also think about the practical and emotional demands of private practice, professional development, boundaries, ethical dilemmas and the impact of race, culture and difference within therapeutic relationships.
Supervision is available to individuals online and in person in Nottingham.
Reflective executive coaching
My executive coaching is for professionals, leaders and business owners who want space to think beyond immediate tasks and consider how they function within their role.
Leadership can bring pressure, isolation and difficult decisions. You may be managing competing demands, navigating conflict, experiencing self-doubt or finding that familiar patterns are affecting your confidence, relationships or ability to move forward.
Drawing on psychodynamic thinking, my approach considers not only what is happening within an organisation or business, but also the underlying emotions, relationships and group dynamics that may be influencing decisions. Together, we can explore how you use authority, respond to pressure, manage boundaries and relate to colleagues, employees or stakeholders.
Executive coaching is not psychotherapy. It has a clear professional focus and is shaped around agreed aims. However, it offers the depth and reflective quality needed to understand the personal and relational factors that can affect leadership and professional life.
My own experience of developing and leading businesses gives me a practical understanding of responsibility, decision-making and the realities of working independently. I combine this with psychological insight to provide a confidential space in which you can think more clearly, recognise unhelpful patterns and approach your work with greater confidence and purpose.
